Victim Impact Statements
Battlefords Victim Services offers a range of services to help you cope with what has happened, including help in the completion of a Victim Impact Statement.
What is a Victim Impact Statement?
A Victim Impact Statement is your opportunity to tell the court how this crime has affected you and those around you. You can provide a description of the physical or emotional harm, property damage, or economic loss suffered by you as a result of the crime.
The judge will consider the statement if the person found guilty of the crime is sentenced. You may also read the statement out loud in court if you want to.
How do I provide a Victim Impact Statement?
You can print off the form by visiting the Ministry of Justice website: Victim Impact Statement/Restitution application. You can also pick up a Victim Impact Statement form from Battlefords Victim Services or your local RCMP detachment.
If you are planning on submitting a Victim Impact Statement, it is best to complete it as soon as possible and return it to your local Victim Services office or the RCMP.
To obtain more information about the Victim Impact Statement or to get assistance with completing one, please contact Battlefords Victim Services at the Battlefords RCMP Detachment at 1052 101st Street North Battleford or call the office at (306) 446-1550 during office hours.Community Impact Statement
An individual can provide a description of the harm or loss suffered by a community as the result of the commission of an offence, as well as a description of the impact of the offence on the community.
A community representative wishing to make a statement on behalf of a community that has been affected by a crime must complete, print and sign a Community Impact Statement and submit it to the court prior to the offender's being sentenced.
To obtain more information about the Community Impact Statement or to get assistance with completing one, please contact Battlefords Victim Services at the Battlefords RCMP Detachment at 1052 101st Street North Battleford or call the office at (306) 446-1550 during office hours.
